M&M Evolution Theory: Food For Thought

Theory of M&M Evolution
Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty
to continue and improve the strength
and robustness of the candy as a species.
To this end, I hold M&M duels.
Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger,I apply pressure,
squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters.
That is the "loser," and I eat the inferior one immediately.
The winner gets to go another round.
I have found that, in general, the
brown and red M&Ms are tougher,
and the newer
blue ones are genetically inferior.
I have hypothesized that the blue M&Ms as a race cannot survive
long in the intense theatre of competition that is
the modern candy and snack-food world.
Occasionally I will get a mutation, a candy that is misshapen, or
pointier, or flatter than the rest. Almost invariably this proves
to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives
the candy extra strength.
In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment.
I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd.
Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack
it neatly in an envelope and send it to:
M&M Mars, A Division of Mars,Inc.Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A.,
along with a 3x5 card reading,
"
Please use this M&M for breeding purposes."

STUDY: DOLPHINS NOT SO INTELLIGENT ON LAND

February 15, 2006 Issue 42-07

GAINESVILLE, FL—Although dolphins have long been celebrated for their high intelligence and for appearing to have a complex language, a team of researchers at the University of Florida reported Monday that these traits are markedly less evident on dry land.
According to study researchers, a group of 25 bottlenose dolphins removed from their holding tanks failed 11 exercises designed to test their basic cognitive abilities and reasoning skills."The dolphins were incapable of recognizing and repeating simple gestures," said study co-author Dr. Scott Lindell. "Their non-verbal communications were limited to a rapid constriction and expansion of the blowhole, various incomprehensible fin motions, and heavy tremors while they lay prone on the lab table." After capturing the dolphins from the ocean, Lindell and his colleagues tagged them and placed them under the intense, high-wattage lights of a moisture-proof lab. The researchers then administered an extensive battery of tests designed to measure everything from the dolphins' self-awareness to their aptitude for writing and reading comprehension.
"Dolphins have a popular reputation for being excellent communicators," Lindell said. "But our study group offered only three types of response to every question we posed: a nonsensical, labored wheezing, an earsplitting barrage of unintelligible high-pitched shrieks, and in extreme cases, a shrill, distressed scream."
Even the dolphins' proven ability to navigate through a form of sonar called echolocation was ineffective on land.
"The military has claimed great success in training these mammals, utilizing their echolocation skills to detect mines that have been placed underwater," said Lindell, who conducted a similar experiment in a concrete parking lot. "We were unable to replicate this finding ourselves."
Lindell added: "In most cases, the dolphins succeeded in finding land mines only when we placed them directly on top of the mines."In another test, several pounds of mackerel were placed on the ground, separated from the test dolphins by only 20 feet of concrete. The dolphins were unable to reach the food and feed themselves.
Despite their failures in the initial series of tests, the animals were given further opportunities to demonstrate their intelligence on land. The dolphins were unable to display novel behaviors, use a map to pinpoint their location on campus (spatial reasoning), or complete a simple obstacle course and wall climb.
"Their learning curve was actually negative," Lindell said. "The more time we gave them to complete basic land-based tests, the more pitiful their efforts became, with many of them opting to bask in the sun rather than perform a simple task."
"In some cases," Lindell added, "the dolphins appeared to be looking directly into our eyes, as if pleading with us to help them perform better in these tests."
Many scientists believe these findings may help to explain why dolphins, for all their vaunted intelligence, have never developed technology or agriculture, or harnessed the power of fire—skills still exclusively in the domain of Homo sapiens. Said Lindell: "Their failure is a great disappointment to all of us who once felt an intelligence-based kinship with these majestic animals."

Much thanks to THE ONION

THE POLITICAL FRONT: PROTEST BUSHS' 2007PROPOSED BUDGET!

On Tuesday, President Bush introduced his proposed budget for 2007. Morally speaking, it's a disaster: it cuts billions from Medicare and education while giving tax cuts to the very rich.1 It even leaves out the funds required to properly rebuild New Orleans. We called last year's budget a "reverse-Robin Hood budget"—but this one's even worse.
So what can we do about it? Well, we'll fight it like hell—because these cuts are just wrong. And as we near the 2006 election, we'll use it to explain why politicians who would rather help their rich friends than the rest of us should be forced out of office.
This budget cuts billions from Medicare and education while giving a whopping $1.35 trillion tax cut aimed at the wealthy. This'll be one of the big fights of the year: can you PLEASE write a letter to the editor of your local paper to frame the new budget from the beginning?

JUST GET OVER IT!

um ...
The default settings on this BlogSite did not permit me to do the usual, aimless rambling that I love to do, especially when I have the chance to ramble on about myself! This then explains why I inserted the "ALL ABOUT ME, More Than You Care To Know" in the section right directly below. You don't have to read it. It will probably bore you but you'll get over it. This is just something my self-absorbed OCD personality FORCED ME TO DO and know that
IT IS NOT MY FAULT!!

IT'S ALL ABOUT ME!! Way More Than You Care To Know.

INTERESTS:
MUSIC, that's my PASSION!! IT'S ALL (almost) GOOD!
My special favorite genres include
OLDE TIME,such as
R.CRUMB,(such a delightfully multi-talented Pervert) & the CHEAPSUIT SERENADERS
Also love BLUE GRASS,
CAJUN/ZYDECO,
BLUES,
JAZZ, very kool and sensual (
Coltrane, Davis,Adderly)
WORLD,(especially from
India, Gypsy, Near & Mid-East, Asia,Africa, Brazil and Aboriginal DIDGERADOO).
I also love CLASSICAL,OPERA,BAROQUE,RENAISSANCE, GREGORIAN CHANT.
For pastimes, I adore terrorizing Extreme Right Wing/Nazi/Fascist/Raging Christian Fanatic Republicans, tying them up, gouging their eyes out, and force feeding them live centipedes because they are so ignorant, misguided, and make such natural targets.
I'm rather artsy. I am especially wild about ART NOUVEAU,
Parrish, Klimt, Mucha,Beardsley,Munch amongst my "to die for" favorite artists.
I worship Tiffany
art glass, and the incomparably ornate, sensual, swirling beauty of the furniture, architecture, clothing, jewelry and glassware of that time in history. ART DECO fascinates me as well, but not nearly as much as ART NOUVEAU, since the lines employed were becoming increasingly sparse and contemporary, losing much of the oppulent excesses and glamorous overindulgence of ART NOUVEAU.
ABOUT ME
I consider myself quite independent, stubborn and autonomous.
I am pretty much the “free spirit” who loves to lau
gh, listen to great music, dance, and take life “lightly.”
I’m not a fashionista as such but I love
filmy fabrics, silks, velvets, and yes, I must shamefully admit it, I LOVE LEATHER! I love leather not in a Dominatrix sort of way, but for the sheer, soft, aromatic luxury of it. I love colors, and various textures juxtaposed in such a way that they still compliment each other, even though they are just one step away from clashing.
My favorite footwear happen to be Boots. Again, not because of the “cruel shoe” image at all, but because they are so wonderfully attractive, sexy , warm, and extremely comfortable. I wear boots even in the Summer, because I love them so much.
I suppose if you had the absolute compulsion to categorize my “style” it would be considered to be mostly influenced by
Bohemian/Gypsy/Deadhead/Sherpa/Prague Jewish Ghetto/Hindu/Bosnian Refugee, Mountain Mama elements.
Like most people, I generally am agreeable and respond positively to ideas or requests that are presented to me in a thoughtful, intelligent, logical, respectful and friendly manner. I consistently turn a deaf ear to the same ideas or requests presented to me with an arrogant, belligerent, negative, condescending or dictatorial attitude.
I do believe that you are what you eat, and I choose to nourish my body with food that is as pure, unadulterated, fresh, whole and natural a form as possible. I’m not religious, but I do believe we it is “our job” to take as good a care of the bodies we were given as we are capable of, so we can play out our roles in this lifetime successfully. Our bodies are “on loan,” and we have an obligation to love and respect them. After all, this is the only body we will be alloted to use in this particular lifetime.
I love the beauty and the electrifying, diverse, and dynamic creative bohemian energy of SAN FRANCISCO, but don't care much for cold, foggy, damp weather.
I'm a real "country" girl at heart. I love being outdoors, hiking around, being overwhelmed by the smell of fresh air and the breathtaking beauty of Nature all around me. If there is a River, Lake, Ocean or even a Swimming Pool nearby, I'm in heaven. Among some other favorite places are BIG SUR, POINT LOBOS, SANTA CRUZ, MONTEREY, PACIFIC GROVE, LAGUNA BEACH, LOS GATOS, BERKELEY, SAUSALITO, STINSON BEACH, to name a few.
I love animals, most all critters, especially WOLVES, and their domesticated cousins, DOGS.
My favorite breeds include
Alaskan Malamute, Siberian Husky, Samoyed, German Shepherd, and other similar "wolf-lookalike" canines. Small, high strung yappies I would not wish to own. I love regal, mage stic and extremely calm canines that are well behaved, intelligent and clearly in control of themselves.
I seek the same qualities in my men, along with an absolutely required sense of humor and ability to make me laugh and see the "brighter" side of life.
FAVORITE MOVIES
The most recent movie I have seen that I love is
WALK THE LINE. Generally, I just watch DVD’s, so glancing at my favorites I must list FRIDA, LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL, THE ROAD THE WELLVILLE, MONSTER’S BALL, MONSOON WEDDING, THE ENGLISH PATIENT, SUNSHINE, the GODFATHER series, especially GODFATHER ll, SCHINDLER’S LIST, MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING, ANALYZE THIS, DUSK TIL DAWN, BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE, FARENHEIGHT 9/11, ONE NIGHT AT MCKOOLS, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, WAR OF THE WORLDS, (the original ), WALLACE & GROMMIT, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, (the musical), GHANDI, Satiyajit Ray’s APU TRILOGY, THE GURU, FORREST GUMP, HIGH FIDELITY, GHOST WORLD, CASTAWAY, BEYOND BORDERS, Kids-In-The-Hall BRAIN CANDY, HOUSE OF SAND & FOG, JESUS’ SON, SIDEWAYS, SNOW DOGS, and of course,
I will never get over my Childlike fascination with DISNEY classics such as
FANTASIA, BAMBI, SNOW WHITE, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, and CINDERELLA. Yes, I know Disney was fascist and Rascist anti-Semitic, and basically NOT a very nice man, but I can’t help but be forever in love with these magnificent creations of innovative animated film. In this case, I must separate the man from his art , because his art cannot help but be admired respected, and celebrated.
FAVORITE MUSIC
OLDE TIMIE as previously mentioned.
Also wild about BLUE GRASS,
CAJUN/ZYDECO,
REGGAE,
BLUES,
JAZZ, very kool and sensual
(
John Coltrane,CannonballAdderly,MilesDavis),as above
WORLD,see above.....

I love the aggressiveness of PUNK and INDUSTRIAL.
I also cherish CLASSICAL,OPERA,BAROQUE and RENAISSANCE, as well as GREGORIAN CHANT.
My favorite classical works include Rodrigo’s
CONCIERTO de ARANJUEZ, and Orff’s CARMINA BURANA. Both of these works, as well as Puccini’s opera LA BOHEME move me deeply,(yes, to the point of tears). They are truly “that beautiful” and touch my soul deeply.
I collect musical instruments even if I don’t actually play them in a manner that most people find acceptable.
FAVORITE BOOKS
I loved reading when growing up. Because of my crazy little life, and a somewhat short attention span, I haven’t been keeping up with one of my favorite pastimes as when life was alot less complicated.
YES!
I did manage to read ONE book since becoming an adult, and I loved it!!
It was Herman Hesse’s NARCISSUS & GOLDMUNDE.

ART CAR OCT 2005 Part 1

SUCKING THE ROMANCE OUT OF INTERNET DATING.

I've always looked down upon On-Line Personals Ads as a rather desperate, pathetic and needy way of going about meeting your significant other, next fling, or next one night stand. This method always struck me as being borderline risky (you never know what that person you're exchanging messages with is honestly like, or what they are actually seeking) when they put themselves "out there" in that fashion. To me, this approach is risking coming face to face with some extremely physically, psychologically or intellectually unattractive and undesirable individuals. This just seemed to me like something only a "Loser" would do to meet others. I'm very Old School.
A male friend of mine attempted to meet his "Ms. Alright For Now", only to constantly be meeting up with various versions of Miss Piggy at his local Starbucks for that initial in person meeting in a casual environment under casual and non-commital circumstances. He was all but traumatized at a number of face to face encounters that took place. Once he got all lathered up after a few days or months of playful, sexy, teasing and enticing banter on-line, only to see his dreams flushed down the toilet by finally eyeballing the purveyor(s) of these delightful fantasies "in the flesh". In the flesh is putting it rather mildly, since one of the ladys he corresponded with for sometime, showed up at a local Cafe Latte Boutique, needing 2 chairs to support her enormous girth. After a number of encounters such as these, he finally gave up on meeting his DreamSqueeze via the Internet. You just don't know what the hey is lurking out there, right? Well, of course, that was in the '80/90's before WebCams
became so prolific. Now one stands a much better chance of hooking up, at least temporarily with someone that won't catapault you into cardiac arrest just by glancing at them in person for the first time. You ALREADY know what they look like. And you have been completely won over by their intelligence and witty repartee.
Now, with online dating services having become technically sophisticated and improved Webcams in wider use, the On Line Dating sites are not as daunting and risky as they once were.
A good friend of mine has always been curious about WHAT she’ll meet via the various Internet Dating programs out there. She didn’t exactly get brave enough to post the REAL truth about herself though. She was alot more interested in what sort of responses a completely ridiculous Personal ad would elicit. Thus, her preposterous “Lonely Heart Cry of Desperation” appeared on CRAIG’s LIST, as well as another On-Line Personal website. Here is a taste of her heartachingly plaintive search for her "soulmate,"

No doubt that this is indeed a plaintive and tear-jerking quest for MR. RIGHT and it can't help but tug on your heart strings.
As silly, ridiculous and over the top as this may seem, it is probably closer to the truth for most women that post these ads. Indeed, this one Personal might be the most HONEST Personal Ad ever posted.
Believe it or not, she has actually gotten quite a few responses to this ad, and none were as negative as you might think. Most respondents were more amused than indignant or angry. That’s a damn good sign that there actually is hope for humanity after all! Well, OK, at least hope for a seemingly lost sense of humor.

**************************************
Another Personal Ad seen in BEST OF CRAIG’S LIST that clearly caught my attention because of it’s more than likely eerie foresight into the future of this, or any relationship is this gem:

HEY FELLAS!!
I'm a hot woman, bright and socially well adjusted. Have my shit together--full time job plenty of friends, clean apartment with good roommates, etc. I'm looking for similarly together man for the following type of relationship:
I work early, so we'll go to bed early on the nights you stay at my place (which will be more than I stay at yours since I doubt you'll be as clean or as frequent a sheet washer, and the two won't add up to every night of the week).
We'll spend a lot of time smoking pot
and watching shitty TV or doing low key activities like reading or crossword puzzles with a bottle of wine. Occassionally, we will go to a bar for a couple of drinks with friends, catch a movie, or you might like to surprise me and we'll try a new restaurant...or an old favorite. Doesn't matter.
Some nights I will cook, ususally
veggie heavy rabbit food that you don't really want, but you'll eat because it's made for you.
I'll surprise you occassionally with
steak, which you like and I don't, or a tee shirt that reminded me of you or a CD I thought you might like.
We'll work out separately
and in spurts that alternate between regular and lazy. Sometimes we'll do outdoor activities together on the weekends--bike rides, kayaking, camping--but more often than not we'll just talk about how it would be a good idea and not follow through.
Though I'm
fully capable, you'll probably start assuming responsibilities like taking out my trash (after a good amount of time, obviously), putting together my IKEA furniture and handling anything that requires steady-handed drilling, nailing, etc.
I will think this is
absolutely adorable, and I'll try to do helpful things as well for you like reminding you of mother's day a week before the date or getting food and beers together for you to watch "the game" with "the boys." Actually, I'll probably consider the two afore mentioned options, deem them needy and annoying and clinging, and settle for giving you a blow job. I hope you don't mind.
I’ll have sex with you even when I’m tired and you’ll appreciate
that. Every once in a while I’ll probably get influenced by one of those awful women’s magazines like Cosmo, and I’ll try to set the alarm for the middle of the night for sex or touch you in weird places they claim are “ultimate male g-spots,” and this will usually turn out to be more funny than sexy. You should always want to have sex with me, though over time you’ll probably propose something I haven’t done like a threesome or anal and I’ll probably consider it very seriously as some sort of birthday/anniversary/special occasion gift, but I’ll chicken out in the end. I’ll understand if this makes you mad for a couple of days.
Sometimes, on the weekends, I'll get excited that I don't have to
get up early the next day, and I'll drink too much. If I'm out with you, you might embarrassingly have to bring me home. Or, I'll call you a thousand times until you pick up and let me come over or meet me at my place. I'll probably say something drunk along the lines of "I wasn't supposed to fall in love with you," or "I didn't mean to get this attached." For you to be a right fit, this shouldn't freak you out too much. I'm looking for a guy that can keep my drunk self from getting too worked up or hysterical and respect that the next morning I either won't remember what I said or I'll appologize for being sloppy. We can both make fun of me the next day when this happens. But you can’t make fun of me for having bad, sloppy sex.
You'll have to meet my family since I live near them and see them a
few times a week--mom, dad, two brothers (one at college and one in high school). I keep up the appearance of being pretty held together around them...trying to minimize all the time I waste, exaggerating minor interests/activities. You'll have to be able to carry on a conversation about sports, politics, bike riding or music with my father, and my mom can talk about pretty much anything with you--I'd suggest family. She'll love to hear about your family. The brother that lives at home is hilarious and will make fun of you. I'll laugh a lot and you'll have to be secure enough to not take it personally. He'll highlight any flaw or distinct feature you have--receding hairline, accent, etc.--and draw attention to it mercilessly and at inopportune moments. Also, he'll notice one leg of yours that's one inch shorter than the other. I think he's hilarious, and this will only work if you either agree or are able to not take offense. My brother atcollege wont be around much, and he’s more or less the nicest person ever, so if you can't get along with him, you're crazy.
I'm pretty likable and confident that you're family will like me
just enough to hope we get married when we're together and have deep, retrospective reservations about our relationship post break-up. I predict your sisters and your dad will like me best, just because that’s the way it usually goes. I'll also do well with co-workers and friends, as I tend to like everyone and am busy enough on my own to keep from smothering you.
After a period of time, I anticipate my roommates or yours will
start making passive comments about an "extra person" living in the
apartment, and one or both of our parents may make alarming

comments about marraige, etc. We probably won't address this, but
will do something stupid to sabatoge the relationship.
You'll
become standoffish and I'll react by being clingy and the tension will rise until I end up crying outside a bar and pulling on your arm as you get in a cab. Or, maybe I'll make plans for a major life change--say moving across country or buying a condo (who knows, right?)--without consulting you and you'll break up with me through the classic fifth grade combination of ignoring me and trusting that it'll get back to me through mutual friends. I'll be briefly but intensely upset; I don't know how you'll handle your grief. After a period of time in which I'll probably date some ridiculous characters and make ridiculous proclamations about how much I hate men and love, and how I'll die alone and sad, we'll run into each other (mutual friend's wedding, etc.). I'll be stressed about this meeting, but we'll probably have a good conversation. At least, I hope we'll be able to be friends, and I think we will...until we get married, that is, at which time our respective spouses will feel uncomfortable and end our friendship. But we'll think of one another fondly, nonetheless. If this sounds good to you, drop me a line with a picture. We can get coffee or drinks or pretend to meet in a supermarket over awkward conversation about bread pricing or something. Whatever works for you.
*********************
I don’t know how you feel about this, but the Soapy way this thing reads out makes me believe that this is the direction most of these relationships will be headed in. If this is starting to sound abit negative, that’s only because.....IT IS.

Don’t worry kiddies, I know you love it!! I’ll be sporadically posting more of my caustic observances on seeking romance in this and other manners on a sparse, on-going basis.
But for now
HAPPY V.D., Y'ALL!!
